Woman’s death in Wake County serves as reminder the importance of Domestic Violence awareness

Just one day before the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, North Carolina had its 51st intimate partner related homicide of the year. We were heartbroken to hear that Josefina Taverez was killed by her boyfriend in Wake Forest.

We, at Kiran, believe that every name and story serves as a reminder to why this month exists and how crucial it is for us to stand with victims and survivors of domestic violence.

Hear from our Executive Director, Seema Kak, as she speaks to ABC 11 about the ongoing issue of domestic violence and the reality of what it looks like.
