Threads of Healing: Art Workshop for Survivors

On March 28, Kiran hosted a deeply meaningful art workshop for South Asian survivors, guiding participants as they painted and stitched fabric pieces, each symbolizing a unique part of their stories into a single textile artwork.

The workshop was facilitated by Priskila Arulpragasam, a second-year MSW student, Rotary Peace Fellow, Kiran volunteer, and South Asian international student, alongside Laurie Selz-Campbell, Clinical Associate Professor at the UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work. Both facilitators brought trauma-informed, culturally responsive expertise, creating an environment focused on healing, storytelling, and creative expression.

Participants were gently supported in weaving their personal journeys into a collaborative piece that captured the complexity and resilience of their experiences. The workshop became a safe haven for survivors to reflect, honor their strength, and reclaim their voices, transforming pain into lasting symbols of beauty. The finished artwork stands as a heartfelt tribute to the courage, resilience, and lived experiences of each participant.
