Speaker Bio:
Dorothy “Dot” McFadden serves as the Director of Sexual Assault Services at InterAct of Wake County in Raleigh, NC, where she oversees the operations at the Solace Center, ensuring comprehensive support and advocacy for survivors. A board Certified Emergency Nurse with credentials as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for both Adult/Adolescent and Pediatric populations, Dot has expansive clinical background that informs her leadership.
Dot plays a vital role as a clinical instructor for Fayetteville State University’s Sexual Nurse Examiner (SANE) program and contributes her expertise to other SANE programs across the state, fostering the next generation of forensic nursing professionals. In addition, she is a Simulation Education Specialist at Wakemed’s Medical Simulation Center, where she enhances the training of healthcare providers.
Her dedication extends to her position as a Staff Nurse on the UNC Rex Emergency Response Team for special events, and she is a certified instructor for the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Dot also instructs for the Emergency Nurses Association’s Trauma Nurse Core Course and Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course, further spreading her wealth of knowledge.
With over 35 years of nursing experience, primarily in emergency care, and more than 15 years as a SANE, Dot combines her clinical acumen with leadership to advance forensic nursing practices. Her commitment to excellence and advocacy is reflected in her membership with the Academy of Forensic Nurses and Emergency Nurses Association. Dot’s career is a testament to her dedication to improving patient care and professional education in forensic nursing.
