Roti in the Park

During this month, one of our summer interns organized an outreach event for the Sri Lankan community of the Triangle Area!

As a Sri Lankan herself, Anokhi wanted to create an outreach event for the Sri Lankan community to inform and spread the word about Kiran and our services. The event was called “Roti in the Park”, and it involved the community gathering at the Buehler shelter in Fred G. Bond Metro Park to cook fresh Sri Lankan coconut roti, and eat Sri Lankan dishes that each family brought. It was a relaxed atmosphere where the community could get together and have fun, while also providing a learning experience. During the event, fliers and brochures were spread out for people to read more about Kiran and our services, and towards the end of the event, our Executive Director, Seema Kak, Board of Directors member, Bharathi Golla, and Task Force Member, Archana Rao gave speeches to highlight Kiran’s message, explain the services we provide, explain what DV can look like, spreading the word about our future events, volunteer opportunities, and answering the questions from the community.
