DESCRIPTION:Every year\, Kiran hosts the “Heroes for Hope” Walkathon to raise awareness and funds for domestic violence services. As the only agency in North Carolina serving South Asian survivors\, we are in a unique position to provide culturally sensitive services for our clients and support/complement the services provided by mainstream domestic violence agencies to South Asian clients. \nCome join us at the Kiwanis Shelter at Bond Park in Cary\, NC! Check in is at 9 AM and we will begin walking at 10 AM. There will be an exciting warm-up\, performances\, Henna\, and T-Shirts! \nYou can walk\, run\, hike; whatever you choose to do\, be sure to share your pictures on social media and tag Kiran! This is a free session to educate yourself & learn more about how you can support survivors of sexual violence. Please register at bit.ly/aprilspeaker26 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker Bio:\nDorothy “Dot” McFadden serves as the Director of Sexual Assault Services at InterAct of Wake County in Raleigh\, NC\, where she oversees the operations at the Solace Center\, ensuring comprehensive support and advocacy for survivors. A board Certified Emergency Nurse with credentials as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for both Adult/Adolescent and Pediatric populations\, Dot has expansive clinical background that informs her leadership.\n\n\nDot plays a vital role as a clinical instructor for Fayetteville State University’s Sexual Nurse Examiner (SANE) program and contributes her expertise to other SANE programs across the state\, fostering the next generation of forensic nursing professionals. In addition\, she is a Simulation Education Specialist at Wakemed’s Medical Simulation Center\, where she enhances the training of healthcare providers.\n\n\nHer dedication extends to her position as a Staff Nurse on the UNC Rex Emergency Response Team for special events\, and she is a certified instructor for the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support\, Advanced Cardiac Life Support\, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Dot also instructs for the Emergency Nurses Association’s Trauma Nurse Core Course and Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course\, further spreading her wealth of knowledge.\n\n\nWith over 35 years of nursing experience\, primarily in emergency care\, and more than 15 years as a SANE\, Dot combines her clinical acumen with leadership to advance forensic nursing practices. Her commitment to excellence and advocacy is reflected in her membership with the Academy of Forensic Nurses and Emergency Nurses Association. Dot’s career is a testament to her dedication to improving patient care and professional education in forensic nursing.
